FOUNDING STORY
I spent the first 2.5 years of my older son’s life navigating an overwhelming storm of medical issues. All of his hair had fallen out, his nails were peeling completely off, he had intense, chronic, and painful eczema and psoriasis on his face and body, and severe gastro problems that left him vomiting and screaming in pain in the middle of the night for hours.
I always hypothesized that they were food related because they all started when I stopped breastfeeding and introduced food.
I went to 32 doctors for all of his varying issues and they all told me I was crazy.
So I took matters into my own hands and tracked everything he ate for 6 months and slowly started to eliminate trigger foods, and then one day I added corn to a dish that had never given him problems, and BOOM! He had a full blown reaction.
We brought him in for testing, and sure enough, he was diagnosed with a corn allergy!
Initially I thought it wouldn’t be that hard, but then I realized that there are over `1800 (!) corn derivatives in America.
After completely eliminating all corn derivatives from his diet, ALL of his medical problems went away completely - all of his hair and nails grew back, his eczema vanished, and he hasn’t had a single gastro problem.
The only problem was that it became nearly impossible to feed him (or my younger son, who was also diagnosed with a corn allergy!) anything packaged or from a restaurant. So I decided to change that with Cob. Our goal is to bring you the foods you know and love, without the corn and GMO, pesticide-ridden corn derivatives, starting with our corn-free popcorn that we developed in our own kitchen!
A CORN-FREE LIFE AWAITS.
MISSION
We’re making the foods you crave, without the corn. We’re taking things back to a time when the foods we love were made with all natural, good-for-you ingredients, that mimic how you’d make them in your own kitchen.
VISION
In navigating my son’s corn allergy, I’ve come to realize that there are over 1800 corn derivatives in American foods and that most of the things you’d want to avoid in foods (i.e. GMOs, fillers, additives, preservatives, fortifications, artificial ingredients, and flavors) are all derived from corn (think everything from baking powder to citric acid to vitamin D to xanthan gum).
It’s nearly impossible to feed them anything packaged or from a restaurant. My goal with Cob is to create a world where people living with corn allergies AND people looking to avoid the pesticide-laden corn derivatives in American foods have options for delicious craveable foods on the go.
